Nio Phone ready for launch in Q3, after receiving regulatory approval in China

As Xiaomi, primarily a phone maker, is planning to take an entry into the EV market, NIO, a startup EV company, has decided to take an entry into the smartphone market. They have announced the NIO phone, which is planned to be launched in the third quarter of 2023.

Last March, NIO’s CEO, William Li, confirmed that his company might be entering the smartphone market in the near future. They plan to integrate their phone with their vehicles for seamless communication and enhanced user experience.

On July 10, the company acquired the license to access the internet in China, which took approximately a month. This means the NIO phone has crossed its last major hurdle to launch its smartphone in China. As per China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Tech website, The license is valid till July 10, 2025.

The NIO phone is going to run on Android, with 5G connectivity and dual SIM card support. More details about the phone are yet to come.

Nio’s first smartphone, with model number N2301, appears on AnTuTu benchmarking platform, revealing its specifications. The AnTuTu listing shows that the phone has a 120Hz display, an overclocked version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC that runs at 3.36GHz, 12GB of LPDDR5x RAM, 1TB of UFS 4.0 storage, and Android 13 OS.

The EV maker had previously teased their NIO phone with the launch of their ES8 vehicle during NIO Day 2022 last December.

NIO is a startup EV company which has been rapidly growing. It has shown a growth of 103.6% since June, which is impressive. In the first seven months of this year, NIO has broken their monthly sales record and delivered 75,023 units and expects to sell more with upcoming models. They’re planning to launch several new models, including their first electric station wagon called the ET5 Touring, designed for the European market.
